Common Sense 2 – Introduction

This is the introduction to my first try at writing a politics blog.

I take my inspiration from Thomas Paine, author of Common Sense (1776). He was a great American Patriot! Sadly I fear he would be greatly “Pained” to observe what has become of our great American Experiment … our current (now the year 2020) politics is in a very sorry state. Democracy is barely hanging on by a slender thread, and there is a serious possibility that we may slip beyond recovery.

I consider myself a modern American patriot. I am distressed by the direction our politics has taken recently, and would like to contribute in any way to redirecting our course! I am not a lawyer nor a political scientist, but I am a serious student of our current politics, in particular doing a lot of reading about what has been happening.

In this blog, I plan to examine:

What has gone wrong – how our democracy is in danger of dying.

What we might try in order to recover.

What we can do to make our democracy work even more effectively for America and the World.

Review some of the reading I’ve been doing, and add my commentary.
